Gabriel Ríos
Belgium
Gabriel Ríos was born in Puerto Rico where he lived until he was seventeen, when he moved to Ghent, Belgium to study painting. He quickly entered the local scene, forming several bands before releasing his debut record “Ghostboy”, released in 2005, blending Latin, hip hop, rock and electronica. Its single “Broad Daylight” found success in Belgium, the Netherlands and France. His follow-up “Angelhead”, released in 2007, expanded his festival presence with its pop-electronic sound. Ríos later shifted direction, leaving electronics behind for “The Dangerous Return”, released in 2010, recorded with pianist Jef Neve and percussionist Kobe Proesmans. After relocating to New York City in 2011, he created the intimate, live-recorded album “This Marauder’s Midnight”, released in 2014, built around guitar, contrabass and cello.
