Introducing: Maella

Maella shares 20 songs that inspire her to create art and we chat with her about things (almost!) nobody knows about her... ;-) Can you keep a secret?

Before you start reading, get into the vibe that is Maella. Maella's created a playlist of 20 tracks that inspired her.

Let's get started! Speaking of starting. Where do people begin when they want to listen to your music?

With the quirky alt pop track 'Tudu Tudu Tu'. A song about choosing yourself and moving on from a toxic relationship. Driven by a western guitar riff, cathartic lyricism, pulsing synths and layered drum beats, it conveys a feeling of strength and relief.

And what should we know about you?

My music sounds like a Tarantino film set in a nightclub: moody and cinematic, with a pop edge. Opening up about vulnerabilities like. mental health, forbidden love and self-confidence, I explore the mind’s darkest corners. Fascinated by the contrast between good and evil, and the pull between happiness and sadness, I empower people to embrace themselves fully and dance the sadness away.

Who do people listen to if they'll like you?

The Marias, Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey, Massive Attack, Artemas and Madonna.

Can you tell us a little secret?

Funnily enough, I started producing music as a way to learn French in school! Struggling to remember the vocabulary, I started using GarageBand to find loops and layer vocals, turning French phrases into catchy little songs. Somehow, setting the words to music made everything stick—and that’s how I got hooked on producing tracks.

What do people like if they listen to your music?

Those who live between daydreams and dance floors, who embrace their quirks and find comfort in moody soundtracks.

Why should people go see your show?

My showcase appearances have gained me the reputation of the Czech artist with the highest international potential. Catch my show-stopping set, with me on bass and vocals and two cowboys on drums and guitar. Yeehaw!
