Dec 07 / 2023

15 nominees. It's quite the number. How on EARTH are you going to know which artists to vote for, for the Public Choice Award? We've got you covered. In our 2 min read, you'll learn about their pets, favorite artists, funny stories and listen to their inspirations. Next up: Ralphie Choo.

What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Juan and I am from Madrid.

Tell us how you started making music.

When I entered college I started making lo-fi beats, lol. Then while I was still discovering music and meeting people that inspired me to create my imaginary world, one of my professors encouraged me to sing on my projects. This together with some other factors led to the project under the alias of Ralphie Choo.

Tell us a little secret (almost) nobody knows about you.

I smoke a cigarette before I do anything else.

Send us a pic of your pet (if you have one).

I had :( She passed away 1 month ago. Luv u COCO.

TOTAL90NOSTALGIA represents the evolution of my project as well as personal evolution and I love the lyrics.

Tell us the last song you’ve listened to, and tell us something you like about that song.

'Granadas' by Bill Evans Trio with Symphony Orchestra. It is incredible how they play with the textures and pass the ball, and how the rhythm section (drums, bass) enters after the orchestral climax. He's so genuine, this man.

What's the best gig you've ever been to?

Tyler, The Creator at Primavera Sound 2022. I ended up completely drenched in sweat. His energy was brilliant, on top of that he was alone on stage.

What album (or albums) have shaped you the most as an artist and generally as a person? What impact did they have on you?

'Blonde' by Frank Ocean and 'El Mal Querer' by ROSALÍA.

Both have a brilliant narrative backed by a soundtrack that aims to innovate and offer a different vision.

Name a song people wouldn’t expect you to like, and tell us why.

'Buleria' by David Bisbal. I fuckin' love the intro. I see a very avant-garde intention to play with flamenco, but I don’t like the rest of the song as much…

You've created a playlist for us, to give us a peek into your inspirations. Tell us about it!

"I will return when the promising road ends, to the last dance, it’s an endless sum, fighting angels."
